Are you currently setting goals for your business?
I am hoping you answered yes to that question because those goals are necessary if you want to move your business forward!
Of course, having all of the goals in the world will not help you or your business if you do not take the actionable steps needed to achieve them.
One of my favourite ways to create goals is to reverse engineer them. I basically start with the end goal and determine the specific steps I must take to reach that goal. These smaller, and actionable, steps are much easier to tackle than focusing on a broad goal that seems overwhelming and out of reach.
SMART GOALS
In order to make it easier for you to understand how to break a huge goal down into actionable steps, I want you to understand SMART goals. The letters in “SMART” stand for what your actionable steps must include.
Specific – Every goal you set must be specific.
Measurable – You must be able to measure your progress for every goal you set.
Attainable or Achievable – There is no point in setting a goal that you cannot possibly reach. It is always best to create goals that you can reasonably achieve in the timeframe you have available.
Relevant or Realistic – We all have a lifestyle we want to achieve in the future. As you are setting goals, you want to make sure those goals will allow you to reach the lifestyle you want to have.
Timebound – Any goal you set should have a timeline as to when you want to achieve it. This timeline will ensure you stay on track for reaching your goals. Once you have your SMART goals in place, I recommend starting to time block, so you can achieve your goals. Having a set time scheduled to work on your goals will keep you on track and make it possible to meet your deadline.
There are always going to be obstacles that will get in your way, even if you utilize time blocking. I find it is best to have a plan in place for when those obstacles come up. I always write down my back-up plan, so if an obstacle prevents me from utilizing my time block, I know how I will “catch” back up.
It is also an excellent idea to have an accountability partner. At least one person should know about your goals, so they can check in with you to see if you are taking the actionable steps to reach those goals.
Remember, prioritizing what is important and taking the right steps is the only way you are going to reach all of those dreams you have in place for your business.
