Every business owner has these big visions of what they can create in their business. While we have these visions, a lot of us are still in that overwhelmed stage. Maybe you haven’t managed handing off all of the compliance work to your team yet. Maybe you haven’t finished setting up your ecosystem. There are a thousand reasons why you could still be overwhelmed and not even ready to tackle those big visions for your business.

When the time comes for those visions though, you must take your long-term goals into account. Anything you build out, or create, must align with the goals you have in place.

If you haven’t written out your goals yet for the next five, ten, or twenty years, I strongly encourage you to do it. This way, you have something to look at when you are creating anything new for your business.

The Top 3 Things Most People Want with Their Long Term Goals

1. Time

If you have a goal to only work one or two days a week, you must make sure you are not building courses or programs that are filling up your calendar. Doing so will not have you in alignment with your goal.

I recommend doing the time blocking exercises I have mentioned in the past. Blocking off the time you will need to accomplish what you want to do in your business will allow you to see how much of your time it will actually take. This is an easy way to see what options will work with your long-term goals and which ones won’t work.

If you plan on working with clients one on one, you must have an idea of how many you can work with at once. The goal is not to work with as many as you can fit in. The goal is to see how much time you have available and then determine how many one on one clients you can fit into the available space.

2. Money

I love to reverse engineer my income, because it gives me targeted information. If you know you want to make a certain amount of money in a month or a year, you can then reverse engineer that amount to see how much you should charge.Utilizing time blocks will allow you to see how much time you have open. The open time blocks will mean those times can be used for clients. You may find that you need to charge each client more to reach your target income if you do not have as much time available.

If you decide you can build out courses and programs, there is so much to consider before setting a price. First, you must consider how much time it will take you to prepare the course and then deliver it. That time must be factored into your cost, as well as your available time blocks.

Once you decide you have the time to build out a course or program, you need to determine how much you want to make from this one course or program. Most people want to make the most money possible. This can be done in one of two ways.

You can easily sell the course or program for $27. However, it can take a lot of people purchasing the course or program to reach your income goal. If you choose to sell it for $1,000, it will take a lot fewer people to reach your goal.

3. Freedom

There are so many people out there that want the laptop lifestyle. They want to spend their time on sandy beaches, as they travel around the world, working as they have time. This is an excellent goal to have, but you must be prepared for the ebbs and flow for the work you do. In the beginning, you are going to be very busy developing everything for your business. There may be times you are overwhelmed. While all of that won’t be in alignment with your goals, it will be later, because you are doing the hard work now.

The freedom will come later, once you have all your systems in place. Your freedom is also something you should consider when you are planning to create courses and programs. If you create something that requires you to be somewhere at a specific time each week, you will want to make sure you can do that. You should also ask yourself if by doing that, you are staying in line with your goals.

When we all started our business, we were too busy hoping that we could find somebody to pay us. Now that we are all shifting into higher-level rolls, with our ideal clients, we want to make sure everything we are building out is meeting our goals.

So, take the time to look at your goals and keep checking back in with them as you are creating new things for your business. When you take the time to do this, you will go to work each day happy with what you are doing to help others. You will also be happy that you are focusing on yourself and the things you value most in life.
